HOUSING AND OPERATIONS
Housing Manager – Ken Heidema
O&M Manager – Dean Tenale
The northern Shuswap Tribal Council Membership Bands formed a Housing Alliance in September 2005 which include Canim Lake, Soda Creek, Williams Lake, and Canoe Creek Band, Marg Casey provides Administrative support and Yvonne Smith provides advisory services to the Housing alliance which meet on a monthly biases. The reason why the alliance was formed was due to the negotiation of the treaty with the four bands.
Housing or shelter is one of the four basic needs; food, clothing and safety are the remaining three. The alliance has been working together on the challenges, need and concerns that most bands are dealing with, our goal of improving and sharing best practices to improve our housing for all members.
The housing policy was adopted in all communities within the NSTC in 2010 to create same set of rules for all members and to protect the bands financial assets. A clear, effective Housing policy ensures that Clients and the band fulfill their responsibilities. The housing policy is a living document meaning that changes if needed and agreed upon by the band Council can be made to in order to meet the needs of the membership.
